In case you haven't already gotten the impression from one of my earlier blog posts (Celebrating our 5th anniversary...in style), I LOVE I'm completely obsessed with cupcakes!
CNN recently published this article on cupcakes about how they're no longer just a fad. (I, for one, never thought they were.)
My husband and I are big fans of Sprinkles Cupcakes. Recently, I've sort of been on a mission...to try out cupcakes (ok, and cakes too...I GUESS) from all over. I got one in Vegas in Sweet Surrender inside The Palazzo. (My wallet was glad I didn't get the Decadence D’Or cupcake for $750!)
Then we tried some red velvet with cream cheese frosting and chocolate with vanilla frosting from Amy's Cupcakes in Puerto Rico for our anniversary.
During our recent trip to south Asia, I celebrated my birthday. Before leaving for our trip, through the magic of The Internet, I was able to find a bakery in Karachi that bakes red velvet cakes: Blue Ribbon Boutique bakery. Typically, cakes in south Asia tend to be a little less sweet and moist than their American counterparts, and this was the first red velvet cake I'd ever seen over there...still I was game to try it. I was glad to find that it turned out ok (and everyone else seemed to like it too). If you've never had red velvet cake/cupcakes, you should! It's a cake with a light chocolate flavor and red coloring (from food color/dye) typically with cream cheese frosting. YUM!
I recently learned of a cupcake business in Karachi (Pakistan): Cupcake(s) By Cookie which was mentioned in this blog post. (Yes, there are entire blogs dedicated to the art of cupcakes.) You can check out their designs/selection on their Facebook fan page. If any readers of this blog buy some cupcakes from there, please let me know how they are...I'm always on the lookout for my next favorite cupcake place!

I am not the fan of cupcakes but you really made them sound so delicious :)
ReplyDeleteRed velvet cupcakes are one of my favorites, but they are certainly not all created equal. Next time you're up here we'll take you to: http://www.teacakebakeshop.com/. The last red velvet I had from there was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI still think Sprinkles' have the best taste. With regards to looks/presentation, the ones in Puerto Rico looked good.
ReplyDeleteAs for the teacake bake shop, can't wait!!
Thanks for reading and for your comments!
