I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I'm not really a politics or news person (unless it involves celeb news!). So I confess that I probably haven't been following the turmoil in Egypt as much as I probably should. (Oh, I'm not totally clueless...I'm just not up to date with the minutia details.)
I'm not a huge fan of surprises...but every now and then, surprises can be good. (Unless it's a negative kind of surprise...like the encounter I had with this guy several months ago, which shocked me.) Today, I was pleasantly surprised.
Let me explain. It started with this retweet (RT) on Twitter from Michelle Branch (yes, the singer). The RT was this original tweet from someone named @johncusack (no clue if that's THE John Cusack since the account is unverified).
If you've already clicked the last two links (of the original tweets), then I hope you were also pleasantly surprised. (If you didn't already click one of those last two links, then I suggest you do that now. Don't worry, I'll wait right here for you.)
Spoiler warning!
The tweet from @johncusack linked to a picture of Christians who were protecting praying Muslims from protestors in Egypt. (Yes, I realize that @johncusack misspelled "Muslim" in his tweet. And no, I'm not sure whether the real John Cusack would do that. But maybe @johncusack was just typing too quickly in his effort to pass on such an interesting tidbit? No idea! But I digress...) The picture tweeted by @johncusack is here. Through the magic of Google, I was also able to track down this article further showing/describing what's going on in the picture.
Today, I was glad to be surprised. Seeing that picture made me feel like -- even in the midst of mass chaos in Egypt -- there is some good in the world. Man helping fellow man...Christian helping Muslim. I, for one, hope people keep surprising me like this.
I don't know much more details than what I've posted here. Egypt is clearly struggling...and the world is watching.
(Incidentally, until this very blog post, I'd never read Al Jazeera news (which is the original news source of the picture in @johncusack's tweet), and I've never read the Loonwatch.com site (which is the news source of the article I found online). The About page on Loonwatch.com describing the site sure is a mouthful!)
This brightened my day! Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteSame here...glad you liked it!

That photo was my FAVORITE during all the turmoil that was going on over there. It made me wonder, though, if an image like that would ever be photographed here in the states. hmm...
