Out of the shadows and into the light

I started this blog in 2009 at a time when I wanted to add something creative to my life. At that time and since then, I've made a lot of effort to shield my picture and identity from this blog and from you, my readers. As much as I love blogging for this site and telling about my life, I guess I sort of felt a responsibility to myself and my family to maintain some level of privacy. And I appreciate all of you who've stuck by me and didn't pressure me while I kept all of that under wraps.

A few months ago, I took a poll asking you (my readers) if you wanted to see my picture, and many of you voted yes. So I'm stepping out of the shadows and into the light to show you who I am.  (You should know that I do this with trepidation...but you've all been such good readers that I know I can expect nothing but kindness from all of you.)

For those who are curious, you can now see a picture of me here. For those who are even more curious, you can see another picture of me here on the 'Introduction' page of my travel site (Travel Adventures of a Desi Blonde).  For those who aren't at all curious, I commend you! (and might I suggest staying away from those 'Introduction' pages to maintain the mystery? ;) )

Anyway...enough about me. Thanks again to all of you for sticking by me. I'm so happy to have so many regular followers...I guess that means I've been doing something right. I'd love to hear from you about what it is about my blog that made you follow/keep reading. And what better way to find out than by taking another poll? Cast your vote below...or chime in with comments.  :)

What is it about this blog that made you follow/keep reading...?

I try to come here to read when I get a chance. I no longer have my blog, but still like to keep up with the ones I followed. I wish I could find the time to comment more to let the bloggers I do follow know that I am still reading and still appreciate them. I just voted. I clicked all of the boxes except something else because I feel that all of them represent why I do still come here when I can to read.
As far as 'seeing' you. I chose not to go to the travel sites. It is of no concern for me really. I do not read to catch a glimpse of the people who write, I read because I am genuinely interested and like what I read. Your blogs are different than other blogs written by those who are married to Pakistanis--it is this very "different" that I appreciate.
I live vicariously through all of you :) and your adventures and topics are of a different nature which helps me, as a woman married to a Pakistani and struggling to find that balance in this pot of mixed cultures, to stop for a moment and see a different perspective--one that has no drama and run-of-the-mill-typical-same here-and same there-theme.
Your blog is light and refreshing and happy. It just makes me smile. I guess in the end, I could have just said that one sentence instead of all this. lol

Hope you're doing well and thanks for continue posting.

  2. I also don't really care what a blogger looks like… but for me, it does help. I follow so many blogs that I have a hard time remember who said what. When I have a picture of the person it is easier to tie them together. Reading and picturing them together is easier for me.

When a blogger doesn't supply a personal photo I will use other things… I use the background picture, the layout or the even the header as a way to remember who says what. Like sometimes, I'll think…oh wait, there was something interesting I wanted to read but who's blog was it…hmmm… it was green and blue… oh and it had a picture of such and such.. lets go find it!
Of course, when the author changes it up… things get jumbled.
Even if a blogger decided to stay in the shadow and lets say, use Elmo as their personal photo… it would still provide that visual link.

  3. Thanks for reading and for voting and commenting.
Thanks also to Shelly for your kind words....they made me smile. :) I'm glad to hear you've been enjoying reading my blog.

Andrea, I recently noticed there are several other bloggers in the desi blog ring using the same background image, so I did a quick blog redesign today to set mine apart (well...that and I like to keep mixing it up). I hope that doesn't throw you off too much. ;)

    Cheers,

  4. ha ha ha! The first thing that came to mind when your blog opened up was "oh, I'm on the wrong one" ha ha! That was a pretty background and even I had that when I first started blogging! I'm making a mental note of your recent change! :0)
