Ice cream flights of fancy

If you've been reading this blog for very long, then you've probably already noticed that I'm a sucker for desserts and sweets...especially cupcakes.

When my (now) husband and I first became friends, one of the things we used to do quite frequently was go into the city (San Francisco) for dinner at a popular south Asian/desi restaurant, Shalimar, and then have ice cream at Ghiradelli Square.

Some friends of ours have been living in the East Bay area, and (at that time), they quickly turned us on to Fentons Creamery and Restaurant.  Fentons has been around since 1894 and recently became even more renowned from its placement in the Disney-Pixar movie Up!  After an initial trip to Fentons with our friends where we unknowingly overordered and ended up with "leftovers" (yes, really), Fentons replaced Ghiradelli as our go-to ice cream place.  They have lots of ice cream flavors and toppings and everything comes in ginormous portions.

Last year, Fentons had a "ice cream flights" option on their menu.    I guess it was Fentons' version of "wine flights" that are commonly served in restaurants. I thought it was cool, so I ordered the "flight."

Every month, Fentons has a special (called Myrtle's Creation) that, when ordered, a portion of the purchase go to charity.  Last month's creation was S'more a Great Cause which benefitted the 4-H clubs of Solano and Alameda Counties.  Sadly, we didn't make it up to Fentons to enjoy that one, but here's a video of it (below).

This month's creation was Cosmic Collision which benefits the Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland.   We went to Fentons this weekend and ordered it.  We (of course) ended up with leftovers and overate had a great time out with our friends.
