Leaving cares behind

I know I just recently returned from a trip to Australia (you can read about my Australian adventures here), but I have to admit that I'm already ready to take another trip.

Being on vacation can be fun because you leave your normal household chores behind, and often times, you eat out at restaurants where someone else has to prepare the food for you. After awhile though, even eating out on vacation becomes work because you still have to find a good restaurant and figure out how to get there...and then there's deciding what to order.

For my next trip, I'd prefer one that's free of stress and (major) decisions.

Not trying hard enough?

As I think I've mentioned before, I regularly read several other blogs that post topics that are in a similar vein to mine.

A few weeks ago, I read this blog post (Trying Too Hard) on The Big, Bad, Blonde Bahu Blog.

The gist of @badblondebahu's blog post was that (in her opinion), someone shouldn't get too caught up in a spouse's culture and give up her (or his?) own culture/identity. She said:
Clearly, there is no one way to be in an in intercultural relationship, but as someone who strains against being defined by my husband's ethnicity, I find it troubling that someone would choose to be so, well, devoured by it.
For some reason, the topic just struck a chord with me. So I wanted to take a moment to respond to what Big, Bad, Blonde Bahu said....sort of like a little friendly point and counterpoint.

Tune in to new travel site

As I mentioned in a couple of my last blog posts (here and here), I've set up a new site and have migrated the existing travel related topics to it.  (This site, Adventures of a Desi Blonde, will still be updated but its focus is changing, as described here.)

As some of you may have also heard, I recently returned from a trip to Australia.

Happy to be surprised

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I'm not really a politics or news person (unless it involves celeb news!).  So I confess that I probably haven't been following the turmoil in Egypt as much as I probably should.  (Oh, I'm not totally clueless...I'm just not up to date with the minutia details.)

I'm not a huge fan of surprises...but every now and then, surprises can be good. (Unless it's a negative kind of surprise...like the encounter I had with this guy several months ago, which shocked me.)  Today, I was pleasantly surprised.

New site for travel topics

As I mentioned in my last blog post, I'm making some major changes to this site (Adventures of a Desi Blonde).

Most (or all) of the travel topics from this site have now migrated to a new site: Travel Adventures of a Desi Blonde (travel.desiblonde.com).
