To be perfectly honest, I meant to write this over a month ago. At that time, I wanted to tell all you dear readers how excited I was that family was coming to visit us this summer and what all I'd been doing to get ready for their arrival.
But I got so busy with oh, everything that blogging about all thecool stuff effort I was doing just wasn't a priority. (But I'm here now...so read on!)
Anyway...until this summer, all of the other times we've had visitors, it's been just 2 people at a time and for a very short amount of time. My sister and her husband visited about 6 (or was it 7?) years ago for a week or less; my husband's cousins visited 3 (or was it 4?) years ago for a few days; and my husband's other cousin and his wife visited 2 summers ago for a week or less.
But the family visit this summer was different. As I mentioned before, this time it was my husband's immediate family -- my mother in law, my nand, nand-dui, and their son -- and they were coming to visit for the first time...ever. (Not to mention they were staying with us for about 5 1/2 weeks.)
Two summers ago when my husband's cousin and his wife visited, I did a lot of preparation before they arrived. First, we painted the guest room a calming light blue color and redecorated it with new furniture. Then, we painted the master bedroom a couple of different light green colors and replaced the furniture there too.
But whatever preparations I did that year was nothing compared what I did this time.
Even though the guest bedrooms were in pretty good shape, we did have to convert our 3rd bedroom from an office (only) into an office/guest bedroom. I also spent a little bit of time "sprucing up" each room with extra blankets. And then most of the rest of my time over the past several months before they arrived was spent baking and freezing stuff (that we'd be eating later after they arrived) and shopping for gifts.
So that's what I was busy with before they arrived. After they arrived, there were dinners at home, and dinners out, and travelling, and taking them sight seeing, and shopping for lots of groceries, and planning and throwing a party, and...phew. Even just thinking about all the stuff we did feels exhausting.
They flew home last Friday. But getting my energy back to what it was before has been a slow process. I spent the entire last weekend watching TV and movies at home and only left the house to walk the dog. So...while I'd love to tell you more details right now about my preparations and their visit...you'll just have to stay tuned.
